On 24 November, 2023 Pakistan’s premium all rounder Imad Wasim announced retirement from international cricket. He said for the past few days I was thinking about my career and now I have finally concluded that it is the right time for me to retire from International Cricket. He added “I would like to thank the Pakistan Cricket Board for their support throughout my cricketing career. It was an honour for me to represent Pakistan. Each of my 121 appearances both in T20i and ODIs was a dream come true for me. It is an exciting time for Pakistan cricket going forward with new coaches and leadership incoming. I wish all involved every success and I look forward to watching them excel. Thank You to the Pakistan fans for always supporting me with such passion. A final thank You to my Family and Friends who have been so important in helping me achieve at the highest level. I now look forward to focussing on the next stage of my playing career away from the international stage”.
The 34-Year Old Imad made his debut in 2015 against Zimbabwe and represented Pakistan in 55 ODIs and 66 T20i. He took 109 wickets and scored 1472 runs in his international career. Imad Wasim also successfully captained Karachi Kings and won HBL PSL 2020 edition trophy.
In the media; It is also reported that Imad Wasim was wanting to play in Abu Dhabi Cricket League but PCB didn’t allow him at first nor picked him into the national cricket team too. Sources claimed PCB told Imad Wasim as if he still wants to play other leagues against their willingness then better to retire from international cricket so that is the reason Imad Wasim finally decided to say good bye to international cricket.
Many thought Imad Wasim was a much better choice over Shadab Khan and Usama Mir for ODI world cup 2023 but always there’s some kind of politics or lobbying linked with team Captain or within the cricket board which forced Imad’s selection not under consideration. Of Course like every other player Imad Wasim has the right to take that decision which could better feed him and his family.
