West Indian West Indies team which is a comparatively less experienced side specially in longer version of the game fetched a stunning victory from wtc champions Australia in 2nd test match played at Gabba. West Indian fast bowling sensation Shamar Joseph did all the damage as he took 7 wickets in Australia’s 2nd innings helping his side to a historic win over top side of Australia.
West Indies with this win has opened their winning account in Australia as they last won a test match from hosts back in 1997 in Australia.
Highlights of Main Performance:
West Indies won the toss, elected to bat first which proved not a great decision by any means as their batters fell apart playing into the hands of Australian fielders. But in the middle order Kavem Hodge showed great performance with the bat as he managed to score 71 runs. Later Joshua Da Silva also played his part helping his side by scoring 79 runs and 50 runs Kevin Sinclair bat helped the cause. West Indies in their first innings managed to score 311 runs.
Australia in reply started with the early wickets up front as Australia’s new opener Steve Smith got out after making just 6 scores. Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green also got out early.
It was Usman Khawaja bat which produced 75 runs as he put up a great fight to opposition bowlers. Other main contributors were Australian wicket-keeper Alex Carey who scored 65 runs and the skipper himself as Pat Cummins scored 64 runs and remained not out. Australia made 289/9, 22 runs short of West Indies first innings total. Josh Hazlewood did not bat due to injury.
West Indies in reply again tumbelled early in piece. Just making 193 runs in their 2nd innings giving hosts target of 216 runs to win 2nd test match. Australia’s Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon picked up 3 wickets each to restrict the opposition on low score.
It was the Australia’s new opener in tests Steve Smith who stood up to the challenge in 2nd innings and scored his 1st 50 as an test opener but no one else could stay for long with him. West Indian bowler Shamar Joseph got in career 2nd 6 wicket haul as he took 7 wickets in hurry to bring a thrilling victory as West Indies won this test match by just 8 runs as Australian team got out at score of 207 runs.
As Australia had won the 1st test match, West Indies has levelled this 2-match test series by 1-1. This win gave West Indies 12 points for their icc world test championship run.
