Steve Smith will lead Australia in odi series against West Indies 2024

Steve Smith will lead the side in upcoming 3-match odi series against West Indies as Pat Cummins has been given rest along with Australia’s frontline fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc.

Selectors have also rested Australia’s premium allrounder Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head would be vice captain of the team.

Western Australia’s quick bowler Jhye Richardson has been included for 50-over games as this is his first comeback since tour of Sri lanka in 2022 while Aaron Hardie, Matt Short and Nathan Ellis have also been included into the odi squad for 3 match series.

Uncapped fast bowler Lance Morris has been included in 13-player squad for odi series who will definitely debut in this series.

Australia’s Head of Selectors George Bailey said, “It is little over 12 months until the Champions Trophy and further opportunities for the likes of Aaron Hardie, Matt Short, Jhye Richardson,  and Nathan Ellis will be valuable both to our ongoing improvement as a team and also further their personal experiences in ODI cricket”.


Further he added, “The squad strikes a balance between players continuing to make their mark in international cricket, playing alongside some of our most experienced players with an eye to the future in this format”.

Australia’s this odi series against West Indies would be last before they visit England in September, 2024.
